Christopher Alexander is based in Cape Town, defined by intention, presence, and modern elegance. Founded and led by Johann van der Merwe, we have documented nearly 200 weddings over the past six years — working at distinguished venues such as Cavalli Estate and Boschendal, and collaborating closely with respected planners and creative teams. From elegant local celebrations in Cape Town and Stellenbosch to intimate destination weddings for couples travelling from abroad, each commission is approached with the same commitment to atmosphere, connection, and considered craft. Operating as a carefully curated team, Christopher Alexander brings together photography, film, and digital expertise to deliver a seamless and elevated visual experience.

A FOUNDATION OF MEANING

At its core, Christopher Alexander is built on a quiet but steady foundation of faith — a belief that shapes perspective, guides intention, and keeps legacy at the centre of the work. The three lines within the mark carry personal significance — reflecting family, conviction, and the values that ground every celebration entrusted to us. This foundation brings clarity and steadiness — creating space for couples to feel natural, confident, and effortlessly at ease.

THE APPROACH

Present and engaged. Intentional in craft. Johann brings a distinctive balance of energy and composure to each celebration — guiding when needed, observing when it matters most, and remaining deeply attuned to the in-between moments that often carry the greatest meaning. Clients often speak of the ease they feel in his presence. That connection allows emotion to unfold naturally — resulting in imagery that feels refined yet real, composed yet deeply human. Photography and film are approached not as documentation, but as a carefully directed visual experience — preserving both the elegance of the celebration and the atmosphere that made it unforgettable.
